📋 Required Documents for Passport Renewal

Original current / expired passport
Bring the original booklet. Bio-data page + last pages (30-31) photocopies are also needed.

Nepali Citizenship Certificate (original + photocopy of both sides)
For minors under 16: Minor Identity Card (Naabalak Parichayapatra).

Printed Online Pre-Enrolment Form (with barcode/QR)
Complete at the official portal before your appointment.

Proof of legal stay in Portugal
Residence permit (AIMA card), valid visa, or other proof of residency.

If surname changed (marriage / divorce)
Marriage or divorce certificate + migration certificate if address differs.

If passport is lost / damaged
Police report (from local Portuguese police) + copy of old passport if available.

✍️ Step-by-Step Application Process

1. Online Pre-Enrolment

Go to the official portal, create an account, select “Renewal”, fill the form carefully and book an appointment date at the Embassy of Nepal in Lisbon.

2. Prepare Documents

Print the application form (with barcode). Gather original citizenship, old passport, residence proof and any extra documents needed.

3. Visit the Embassy

Arrive on time. Documents are verified, biometrics (photo + fingerprints) are taken, and fees are paid.

4. Processing & Collection

Data is sent to Kathmandu. Processing usually takes 6–8 weeks. You can collect the new passport at the embassy or request postal delivery (if available).

Appointments are booked through the online pre-enrolment system. Choose the date and time that appears available for the Embassy of Nepal, Lisbon.

🕐 Consular Hours

Document verification / biometrics: Morning hours (usually 09:00–13:00)
Passport collection: After 14:00
Office: Mon–Fri 09:00–17:00

🏛️ Finanças – Tax & NIF

Getting a NIF (Número de Identificação Fiscal) is one of the first steps for almost every Nepali living in Portugal.

📌 What is NIF?

Portuguese tax identification number. Required for bank accounts, contracts, work, health, etc.

At a Finanças office (Serviço de Finanças)
Through a lawyer / solicitor / “gestor”
Online in some cases if you already have credentials

Once you have a residence permit and NIF, you can register with the Portuguese National Health Service (SNS).
